Frequently asked questions
What exactly does the website check look at?
One page: the page behind the address you enter. It is fetched the way a browser does and assessed on twenty points, across security, speed, findability and privacy. It's a snapshot of the technology, not a review of design or copy.
Is my site or the result stored?
No. The page is fetched once, assessed and immediately forgotten. Paceline doesn't store results or keep track of which sites were checked.
Is a point of attention serious?
Not always. A point of attention is something that could be better, like a title that's too long or a missing sitemap. A problem noticeably costs you visitors or findability, like a page that asks Google not to include it. Many points can be fixed with a small change.
Why does the check look at Google Fonts and trackers?
Because they send data about your visitors to companies outside the EU on every visit, at minimum their IP address. A German court ruled in 2022 that loading Google Fonts without consent violates the GDPR. Self-hosting solves that and makes the site faster as well.
